Basketball Game Preview: Morgan Park Academy Warriors vs. Schaumburg Saxons

The Morgan Park Academy Warriors will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Schaumburg Saxons at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Morgan Park Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season.

While Morgan Park Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They managed a 61-55 win over Daystar Academy last Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.

Morgan Park Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Varun Paluri, who posted 11 points along with eight steals and six boards, and Ivan Fullilove, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Paluri is now averaging an impressive 2.6 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Montrell Terry, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Morgan Park Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Schaumburg didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Perspectives-IIT/Joslin on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 59-55 victory.

Morgan Park Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Schaumburg, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
