Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Newton

Newton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the South Gwinnett Comets 18-3. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

London Treadwell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Treadwell was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Temple Howard, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Joy Files was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Newton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .931. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Newton's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for South Gwinnett, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.

Coincidentally, Newton and South Gwinnett will both be playing Heritage the next time they take the field. The Rams will host the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Comets will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
