Basketball Recap: South Garner Starts Season with Victory Against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability + How To Watch

South Garner gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They breezed past the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans to the tune of 73-38. That's more bragging rights for the Titans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

South Garner's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kimaya Barnes, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 13 points and four steals. Barnes has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last 20 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Ballard, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.

South Garner smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 20 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Southern School of Energy and Sustainability still got an impressive performance from Ashlyn Hudson, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliyah Herndon, who posted five points.

Looking ahead, South Garner will head out on the road to face off against Wakefield at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-46 victory against Dudley on the 19th.
