Mt. Rainier hasn't had much luck against Kennedy Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Rams will be playing at home against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. Mt. Rainier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Mt. Rainier's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Auburn 10-0. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.
Kadence Avila Petitt was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Kendall Parker was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Willow Stokes was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Kennedy Catholic's offense. They came up short against Auburn Riverside on Wednesday, falling 14-0. The Lancers have struggled against the Ravens recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
Kennedy Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Megan Wintermute, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
The win got Mt. Rainier back to even at 5-5. As for Kennedy Catholic, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mt. Rainier has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kennedy Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Mt. Rainier's way against Kennedy Catholic when the teams last played on April 2nd, as Mt. Rainier made off with an 18-9 victory. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
