Basketball Game Preview: Basalt Longhorns vs. Moffat County Bulldogs

The Basalt Longhorns will square off against the Moffat County Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Tuesday, Basalt came up short against Montrose and fell 50-41. The contest marked the Longhorns' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Moffat County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-45 heartbreaker at the hands of Grand Valley.

Basalt will need focus on slowing down Trayson Carlson, one of several Moffat County players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 12 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Carlson a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenyen Camilletti, who had 12 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Moffat County was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grand Valley only racked up four assists.

Moffat County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Basalt, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Basalt came up short against Moffat County when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 51-39. Thankfully for Basalt, Ian Champ Hafey (who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
