Softball Recap: Weaver's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Weaver came into Thursday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Wellborn Panthers with a sharp 14-6 win on Thursday. The Bearcats not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 16-7).

Reyleigh Partner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Coleman, who fired off two home runs and nine RBI while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Anna Shirvinski was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.

Weaver's victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Wellborn, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weaver will face off against Ranburne at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Wellborn, they will challenge Faith Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
