Baseball Preview: Albany Warriors vs. Rock Port Blue Jays

Suggested Video

Albany hasn't had much luck against Rock Port recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Warriors will host the Blue Jays at 5:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

Albany took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Stanberry get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Warriors as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Shae Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Albany got a massive performance out of Daulton Worrell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Barrett Worrell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Albany always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Rock Port waltzed into their match on Monday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. They blew past the Mustangs 15-0. Considering the Blue Jays have won nine contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Like Albany, Rock Port also got a great game from a two-way player: Rylan Hunter. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hunter has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Westyn Amthor looked comfortable as he went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

Back at the plate, Logan Ellis and Corbyn Jakub did most of the damage at the plate: Ellis went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Jakub went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That double was Ellis' first of the season.

Rock Port pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Albany, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Albany has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rock Port struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Albany might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Rock Port in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
