Fruitport dropped their record down to 19-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 17-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Hopkins Vikings by a score of 2-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Trojans were not able to get on the board.

As for Hopkins, they are on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Hopkins' part, the result came thanks to Christian Smigiel's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. Smigiel has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hopkins saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Woollam, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That's the most hits Woollam has posted over his last six contests.

While Fruitport had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
