Basketball Game Preview: Weskan Coyotes vs. Cheylin Cougars

Weskan is 2-8 against Cheylin since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Weskan Coyotes will host the Cheylin Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

In Friday's Canine Competition, Weskan came out on top. They really took it to Golden Plains for the full four quarters, racking up an 86-46 victory. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 295th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Trey Allen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 36 points. The game was his 32nd in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dodger Allen, who posted 18 points.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Cheylin over Triplains/Brewster in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Cheylin blew Triplains/Brewster out of the water with a 72-29 final score. The win was familiar territory for the Cougars who have now won three matches in a row.

Cheylin found their leader in freshman Landon Schoenberger, who had 26 points along with eight assists and seven boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Schoenberger has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Wright, who earned 13 points.

Weskan pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 38.8 points. As for Cheylin, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Weskan couldn't quite finish off Cheylin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 54-51. Thankfully for Weskan, Pablo Bermudez (who went 11 of 18 on his way to 27 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time.
