Volleyball Recap: Annie Vaughan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pacelli over Marathon

After flying high against Wild Rose on Tuesday, Pacelli came back down to earth. The Cardinals lost 3-0 to the Marathon Red Raiders on Thursday. The Cardinals were not able to make up for their loss to the Red Raiders from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

While Pacelli ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 19 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-23, 25-22.

Pacelli's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annie Vaughan, who had 29 digs and two assists. Vaughan is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last ten games she's played dating back to last season. Peyton Zdroik was another key player, getting 12 digs and three aces.

Marathon can attribute much of their success to Leah Dodson, who had nine digs and one assist. Those nine digs gave Dodson a new career-high.

Pacelli's loss dropped their record down to 12-17. As for Marathon, their victory ended a five-match drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 12-12.

Pacelli has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Port Edwards on the 14th. As for Marathon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Prentice on the 14th.
