Softball Preview: Palmer Terrors vs. James Irwin Jaguars

After starting their season with two straight games on the road, Palmer is finally coming home. They will be defending their home-field for the first time when they go up against the James Irwin Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Having struggled with 14 losses in a row dating back to last season, Palmer finally turned things around against Mitchell last Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over the Marauders. The high-scoring effort was just what the Terrors needed considering they were shutout in their previous contest.

Palmer got a massive performance out of Malouma Cheikh, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Charlie White, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Palmer didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with seven strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've posted since was before the start of last season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask James Irwin). They put the hurt on Mitchell with a sharp 23-7 victory on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Jaguars as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

James Irwin got a massive performance out of Cameo Murray, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that Murray's stolen this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasleen Deleon, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

The victory got Palmer back to even at 1-1. As for James Irwin, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Palmer might still be hurting after the 22-1 defeat they got from James Irwin in their previous matchup back in August of 2023. Can Palmer avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
