Basketball Recap: Irwin County Comes Up Short

Irwin County lost against Charlton County back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Irwin County Indians fell 57-44 to the Charlton County Indians. Irwin County's defeat continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.

Despite the loss, Irwin County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brooklyn Gordon posted two points in addition to 14 rebounds and four steals. Gordon has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 11 times she's played.

Even though they lost, Irwin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matchups.

Charlton County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rihanna Battle led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Irwin County's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Charlton County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.
