Baseball Recap: Rio Mesa Comes Up Short

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Rio Mesa and San Marcos had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Rio Mesa Spartans took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Marcos Royals on Friday. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Royals recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Rio Mesa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alec Fontyn, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Rio Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7-1. As for San Marcos, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rio Mesa will challenge Santa Barbara at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Santa Barbara has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for San Marcos, they will take on Ventura at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ventura's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so San Marcos' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
