Basketball Game Preview: Oconee County Warriors vs. Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes

The Oconee County Warriors will challenge the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Oconee County is returning to their home court after beating Cherokee Bluff on theirs, despite the fact Cherokee Bluff has dominated at home this season. Oconee County managed a 57-51 victory over Cherokee Bluff on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Elizabeth Wynn was a one-woman wrecking crew for Oconee County as she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 23 rebounds. With that strong performance, Wynn is now averaging an impressive 8.6 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jill Daniel, who posted 12 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monroe Area). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat West Hall 64-30. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Purple Hurricanes as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Oconee County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Monroe Area, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-10.

Everything came up roses for Oconee County against Monroe Area when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 57-22 win. Will Oconee County repeat their success, or does Monroe Area have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
