Football Recap: Monmouth Regional Comes Up Short at Home Against Barnegat + How To Watch

Monmouth Regional unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 21-13 to the Barnegat Bengals on Thursday. The Falcons lost against the Bengals in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 42-6 score last time.

Although Monmouth Regional took the loss, they still got scores from Malik Thompson and Tyler Gustafson.

Barnegat was led to victory by Christopher Santero and Jack Haviland. Santero rushed for 101 yards and two scores, while Haviland rushed for 84 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Those 101 rushing yards gave Santero a new career-high.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monmouth Regional is headed away from home for the first time to take on Pinelands Regional at 6:30 p.m. on September 5. As for Barnegat, they will take on Manchester Township at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
