Winthrop College Prep Academy's loss ends nine-game winning streak at home

The Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to North Tampa Christian Academy 61-56. It was the first time this season that Winthrop College Prep Academy let down their fans at home.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lee Brickhouse , who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. Jason Johnson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Winthrop College Prep Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Tampa Christian Academy only pulled down 23 offensive rebounds.

North Tampa Christian Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Toni Bryant out in front who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 12 rebounds, and 16 blocks. Bryant is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ezekiel UDOZORH , who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Winthrop College Prep Academy's loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-7. As for North Tampa Christian Academy, their win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

Winthrop College Prep Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against McKeel Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully McKeel Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Friday. As for North Tampa Christian Academy, they will take on St. John Paul II Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
