Baseball Game Preview: Wayne Warriors vs. Bellbrook Golden Eagles

The Wayne Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Bellbrook Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Wayne nor Greenville made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Warriors' pitcher stepped up to hand the Green Wave a 10-0 shutout. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Peyton Tengesdahl made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Xavier Hargrave was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Jose Ortiz was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Wayne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Bellbrook made easy work of Shawnee on Friday and carried off a 13-1 victory. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Golden Eagles this season.

The win made it two in a row for Bellbrook and bumps their season record up to 8-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Wayne, the win snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 4-15 record.

Wayne came up short against Bellbrook in their previous matchup back in May of 2021, falling 9-4. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
