Basketball Game Preview: Fernley Vaqueros vs. Spanish Springs Cougars + How To Watch

The Fernley Vaqueros and the Spanish Springs Cougars will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Fernley was handed a heart-breaking two-point defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Incline on Tuesday. The Vaqueros blew past the Highlanders 64-29. The Vaqueros have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fernley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryce Dunagan-Stephens, who shot 40% from the field en route to 18 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Jacobson, who posted 11 points.

Fernley was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Incline only racked up five.

Meanwhile, Spanish Springs waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 69-62 win over the Mustangs.

Fernley better keep an eye on Tyson McNeil. He was instrumental in Spanish Springs' win, going 6-for-10 on his way to 17 points and six boards. What's more, McNeil also posted a 60% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January. Cullen Bennett was another key player, putting up eight points.

Fernley's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Spanish Springs, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Fernley ended up a good deal behind Spanish Springs in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, losing 60-44. Thankfully for the Vaqueros, Tanner Bowers (who shot 73% from the field to rack up 27 points and eight rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
