Football Recap: Capital Jaguars vs. St. Michael's Horsemen
Capital was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They took a blow against the St. Michael's Horsemen, falling 37-0. The Jaguars lost against the Horsemen in their previous head to head back in August of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 28-20 score last time.
Even if they lost, Capital's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jonah Waipa and Eli Dominguez who racked up all five sacks between them. Waipa didn't just play on offense: he also picked up three sacks and made seven total tackles (4.0 for loss).
St. Michael's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Soren Annon, who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Annon got the majority of those yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible71 yards. Another back making a difference was Cole Sandoval, who rushed for 43 yards and two touchdowns.
Capital's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for St. Michael's, the victory was the ninth in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record for this year to 2-0.
Capital will head out to square off against Espanola Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Espanola Valley focused on turnovers this week as team gave up five on Friday. As for St. Michael's, they will take on Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Michael's will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak dating back to last season alive.
