Football Recap: Lakewood Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Lakewood played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Golden Demons, falling 41-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 37-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

Lakewood's loss came despite strong showings from Shukrani Bumba Masela and Kasten Steinke. Bumba Masela picked up 108 receiving yards and one TD, while Steinke threw for 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Bumba Masela got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 96 yards. Lakewood also got a significant boost from Ezekiel Maddux, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 83 yards.

Thatcher Matthews produced another solid effort rushing for 172 yards and one score on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 122 yards and four TDs while completing 78.6% of his passes for Golden. Those four passing touchdowns gave Matthews a new career-high.

Lakewood's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Golden, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Lakewood and Golden will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Tigers are set to challenge their familiar foe Boulder at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Golden will face off against rival Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
