Softball Game Preview: Strasburg Rams vs. Rappahannock County

Strasburg and Rappahannock County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Rams will face off against Rappahannock County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Strasburg will be strutting in after a victory while Rappahannock County will be coming in after a defeat.

Strasburg took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Everything went their way against Stonewall Jackson as they made off with a 12-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rams considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Ava Mayhew made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Madison Wilkins was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Cunningham, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Strasburg lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Rappahannock County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 20-0 to Clarke County.

Rappahannock County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Strasburg, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Everything went Strasburg's way against Rappahannock County when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Strasburg made off with a 16-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
