Baseball Recap: Soledad Takes a Loss

Soledad had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it seven. They fell 6-2 to the Hollister Haybalers. The Aztecs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Haybalers earlier this season, when they won 5-3.

Soledad saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Hollister, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

On Hollister's side, Drew Gastelum tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Gastelum a new career-high.

At the plate, Jake Esparza was a standout: he got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Braydon Barone was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Soledad will take on Marina at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hollister will be paying especially close attention to the Aztecs' game: after the Aztecs face off against the Mariners, they'll take on Hollister again at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
