Football Recap: Middletown Starts Season with Loss at Home

Middletown unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by the Rye Garnets and fell 63-20. While losing is never fun, the Middie Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Garnets are ranked fifth).

Rye's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carson Miller led the charge by throwing for 232 yards and three touchdowns while completing 91.7% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. That's the most passing yards Miller has posted since back in October of 2024. Sebastian Lewis was another key pass catcher, picking up 135 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Middletown didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 21-13 win against Warwick on the 13th. As for Rye, they have also already played their next matchup, a 17-7 victory against Somers on the 12th.
