Hylton hasn't had much luck against Freedom recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hylton Bulldogs just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Freedom Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hylton will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Charles J. Colgan, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Hylton walked away with a 39-29 victory over Charles J. Colgan on Thursday.
Hylton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aysia Gholston led the charge by putting up 12 points. Raegan Cathcart was another key player, scoring 11 points and three steals.
Meanwhile, Freedom waltzed into their game last Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They really took it to the Red Wolves for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-4 win. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 25 points or more this season.
Freedom's win came from a few key players Hylton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Keilana Johnson, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 13 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Savannah Price, who posted 13 points and six steals.
Freedom smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Freedom pushed their record up to 15-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.4 points over those games. As for Hylton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-13 record this season.
Hylton was taken down by Freedom 59-14 in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Freedom's Keilani Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine assists. Now that Hylton knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
