Baseball Recap: Sage Creek Triumphs

Sage Creek came out on top against Del Norte on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Bobcats had just enough and edged out the Nighthawks 10-9. This was a revenge game for the Bobcats: when they faced off against the Nighthawks on Thursday, they had to take a 6-3 defeat.

Elijah Stephens and Sean Saiki did most of the damage at the plate: Stephens fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4, while Saiki got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. Stephens is becoming a predictor of Sage Creek's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Max Biehl, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Sage Creek lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.

Sage Creek's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Del Norte, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-9.

Looking ahead, Sage Creek will face off against Mission Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Bobcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Del Norte, they will challenge El Camino at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Nighthawks are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
