Baseball Game Preview: Norwin Knights vs. Canon-McMillan Big Macs

The Norwin Knights will venture away from home to face off against the Canon-McMillan Big Macs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Norwin is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Hempfield Area on Wednesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Meanwhile, Canon-McMillan had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Wolverines. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for the Big Macs this season.

Michael Stafford looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Nico Patragas was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Massimo Falconi was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Canon-McMillan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .533 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Canon-McMillan pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Norwin, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Norwin beat Canon-McMillan 9-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Big Macs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
