Baseball Game Preview: Eaglecrest Raptors vs. Chaparral Wolverines

The Eaglecrest Raptors will square off against the Chaparral Wolverines at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Eaglecrest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, Eaglecrest needed a bit of extra time to put away Vista PEAK Prep. They walked away with a 13-10 victory over the Bison. The win continues a trend for the Raptors in their matchups with the Bison: they've now won four in a row.

Eaglecrest got a great performance from Logan Franks as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cosme Vera, who scored a run while going 6-for-6. Those six hits gave him a new career-high. Blake Anderson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run.

Eaglecrest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Chaparral entered their tilt with Brighton on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 9-0 shutout. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.

Josh Sutrina was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Cal Tiner, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Eaglecrest's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Chaparral, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Eaglecrest has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts.
