            Softball Recap: Elmira Express vs. Horseheads Blue Raiders        
        
		
        
        
            Elmira fought the good fight in their extra-innings  game against Horseheads  on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Raiders by a score of  5-4. The Express have struggled against the Blue Raiders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

 Marley Devlin spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned  (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't  tossed less than five  strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
 On the hitting side,  Madison Smith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and  went 2-for-4 with one  triple and one  run. That  triple marked the first that  she has  hit this season.  Addison Taft was another key player,  getting on base  in three of her five plate appearances with one  triple, one  run,  and one  RBI.
Elmira's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Horseheads, the  victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
 Elmira didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  contest,  a  12-6  win against Owego Free Academy on the 2nd. Horseheads has also already played their next  matchup (against Southside), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
