For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Springfield and North Eugene meet (six straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Millers pulled ahead with a 35-34 photo finish over the Highlanders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Millers have posted against the Highlanders since August 31, 2018.

Springfield was led to victory by Khamani James and Noah Solo. James gained 258 total yards and two touchdowns, while Solo rushed for 97 yards and two TDs. The dominant performance also gave James a new career-high in rushing yards (180).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Springfield was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 313 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, North Eugene still got an impressive performance from D'Mariyae Ireland, who rushed for 135 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 236 yards on 14 of 27 attempts. Duncan Roudabush also helped out with an impressive 83 receiving yards.

Springfield's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for North Eugene, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.

Coming up, Springfield will face off against Thurston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Colts will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Millers surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Eugene, they will square off against Roseburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
