Football Recap: Broadalbin-Perth Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Broadalbin-Perth's offense. They lost 26-0 to the Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks on Friday. The defeat leaves the Patriots still looking for their first win of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coxsackie-Athens to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rich Perino, who picked up 127 receiving yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 58 yards. Those 127 receiving yards gave Perino a new career-high. Tristan Canning was another key signal caller, throwing for 204 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

Broadalbin-Perth's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Coxsackie-Athens, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Broadalbin-Perth will face off against Cobleskill-Richmondville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 11.2 points per game this season, so the Patriots' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Coxsackie-Athens, they will challenge Johnstown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Riverhawks will be up against the Sir Bills' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.75 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
