Basketball Recap: Middletown Blue Dragons vs. South Windsor Bobcats
The Middletown Blue Dragons entered their tilt with the South Windsor Bobcats with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. Everything went Middletown's way against the Bobcats on Friday as the Blue Dragons made off with a 62-38 victory. Given Middletown's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Bobcats are ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shalyn Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Gabby Butler was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Middletown's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for South Windsor, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.
Middletown will challenge the Panthers at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Platt is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for South Windsor, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Stafford comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
