Two dominant guards in Sydney Whitley-Reese and Lily McLean are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pamlico County Hurricanes just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Southside Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Southside will be up against a hot Pamlico County team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Pamlico County simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat Jones 60-11. With the Hurricanes ahead 38-8 at the half, the match was all but over already.

01/16/25 @ Lejeune | 22 |
Pamlico County found their leader in sophomore Nya Clark, who went 9 of 16 on her way to 18 points along with five assists and five steals. Clark's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyliyah Barber, who went 6 for 8 en route to 12 points in addition to six assists and six steals.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southside). They blew past Lejeune, posting a 63-32 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Seahawks.
Southside's win came from a few key players Pamlico County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tamya Smith, who went 9 of 14 on her way to 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. I'Kiriyah Minor was another key player, going 5 for 11 en route to 14 points and six boards.
Southside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.
Southside pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.7 points per game. As for Pamlico County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.
Pamlico County strolled past Southside in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a score of 51-33. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Smith, who posted 15 points in addition to five steals and three blocks. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Pamlico County still be able to contain Smith? There's only one way to find out.
