Softball Recap: Point Arena Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Point Arena had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on the Laytonville Warriors with a sharp 12-2 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.

Jade Swan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Serina Azbill, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hattie Piper, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Point Arena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laytonville only posted an OBP of .364.

Point Arena's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Laytonville, they dropped their record down to 5-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Point Arena will host Technology at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Laytonville, they will be playing at home against Willits at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
