Softball Recap: Santa Fe Finds Home Field Redemption Against Valencia

There's no place like home for Santa Fe, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They came out on top against the Valencia Jaguars by a score of 10-5 on Monday.

Leah Gutierrez was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gutierrez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Santa Fe got a great performance from Jessi Lopez as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Lopez has posted since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, A'Mya Jeselink was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Chavez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Santa Fe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Santa Fe now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Valencia, they suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Santa Fe will venture away from home to square off against Piedra Vista at 2:00 p.m. on March 20th. As for Valencia, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Valencia Jaguars face off against Los Lunas Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on March 18th.
