McCollum has gone 9-1 against Harlandale recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cowboys will take on the Indians at 7:00 p.m. McCollum is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, McCollum didn't have quite enough to beat MacArthur and fell 5-4. The Cowboys have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
RUIZ MADELYNN spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, GARZA BRYANNA made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Harlandale waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Mavericks 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Juanita Gutierrez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Harlandale let Nikole Mejia and Sofia Galvan run wild. Mejia went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Galvan scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Galvan has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Arizpe, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4.
McCollum's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Harlandale, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Harlandale's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. McCollum has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Harlandale, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will McCollum keep running through batters, or will the Indians buck the trend?
McCollum took their victory against Harlandale in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cowboys since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
