Baseball Recap: Platte Valley Takes Down Ranked Ralston

Platte Valley faced Ralston in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Platte Valley came out on top against Ralston by a score of 10-6. While Platte Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Hunter Williams made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cael Smith, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Hollst, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Platte Valley's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. As for Ralston, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-4 record.

Looking ahead, Platte Valley will be taking part in a tournament against Platteview at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Platte Valley's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Ralston, they will be playing at home against Beatrice at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Orangemen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.92 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
