Baseball Game Preview: Colcord Hornets vs. Hulbert Riders

The Colcord Hornets will venture away from home to take on the Hulbert Riders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Colcord has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Hulbert will arrive with five straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Colcord came up short against Fairland and fell 13-8. That's two games in a row now that the Hornets have lost by exactly five runs.

Meanwhile, Hulbert got themselves on the board against Wilson-Henryetta on Thursday, but Wilson-Henryetta never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 win over the Tigers.

Hulbert saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Coale Gifford, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Kellan Smith also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Hulbert's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Colcord, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Colcord beat Hulbert 13-9 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
