Baseball Recap: Yoakum Continues Home Dominance on Friday

There's no place like home for Yoakum, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Columbus Cardinals 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Cardinals on Tuesday, they had to take a 6-2 loss.

Bradley Jacob made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Yoakum is 6-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-8-1 otherwise. Jacob was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Owen Blanco looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Yoakum's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 9-10-1 when he doesn't).

Back at the plate, Brett Lerch and Trae Cuellar did most of the damage at the plate: Lerch got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Cuellar went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Jamar Hopkins was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Yoakum's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of three runs across that stretch. As for Columbus, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-11.

As of now, neither Yoakum nor the Cardinals have any future games scheduled.
