Volleyball Recap: Covenant Day Comes Up Short

Covenant Day lost against Charlotte Country Day School back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Lions came up short against the Buccaneers, falling 3-0. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-21, 25-19.

Olivia Huneycutt paced Covenant Day's offense, picking up ten kills. Huneycutt got some help from Maggie Shannon and her 12 assists. Shannon also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with RJ Llaneza, racking up three apiece.

Charlotte Country Day School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ella Standish led the charge by getting 12 digs and two aces. Standish has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last four times she's played. Lillian Youakim also deserves some recognition as she had her first dig of the season.

Covenant Day now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Charlotte Country Day School, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Covenant Day will challenge rival Providence Day at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Charlotte Country Day School is set to square off against their familiar foe Cannon at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
