Football Recap: Rayder Jennings and RJ Buckley Pace South Newton Defense

The South Newton Rebels came up short against the Faith Christian Eagles on Friday and fell 36-28.

Despite the defeat, South Newton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lyle Harrington threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground. Harrington's passing game has become a key predictor of the Rebels' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-4 otherwise.

South Newton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Rayder Jennings and RJ Buckley.

Ezra Church was nothing short of spectacular for Faith Christian: he picked up 99 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 38 yards and one touchdown. Those 99 receiving yards gave Church a new career-high.

South Newton's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Faith Christian, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-6.

South Newton has already played their next contest, a 49-0 defeat against Frontier on the 17th. As for Faith Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 48-8 loss against Greenwood Christian Academy on the 17th.
