Basketball Game Preview: Word of God Academy Force vs. Brighton Bengals

The Word of God Academy Force will challenge the Brighton Bengals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Brighton will be up against a hot Word of God Academy squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Force enjoyed a cozy 61-46 win over Prairie View Academy on Monday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Word of God Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zyere Cartwright, who went 7-for-12 on his way to 25 points. Cartwright's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taj Bell, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Brighton over Christian Academy of Louisiana in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Bengals blew the Crusaders out of the water with a 67-35 final score. The Bengals haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Word of God Academy better focus on containing Brody Giles and Davis Wolfe as the pair were huge in Brighton's win. Giles shot 58% from the field en route to 17 points in addition to five assists and three steals, while Wolfe posted 15 points along with five boards and four steals. Those five assists gave Giles a new career-high. Reid Williams was another key player, putting up eight points and 14 rebounds.

Word of God Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Brighton, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Everything came up roses for Word of God Academy against Brighton in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, as the team secured a 77-15 victory. In that game, the Force amassed a halftime lead of 51-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
