Game recap: Pearland High School Football Team bests Lamar

PEARLAND, Texas - Pearland (Texas) saw its 14-point lead shrink to eight, but hung on to upset Lamar (Houston, Texas) 21-13 on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a Hayden Cole touchdown run in the second quarter, the Oilers led 14-7 at the half.

Pearland grew its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. PHS scored once in the quarter on a Connor Heath touchdown pass to JaColbie Butler.

The loss came as a surprise for the Redskins, who entered the game ranked No. 19 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Texas, while the Oilers were ranked No. 65.



Pearland went into the matchup giving up only 9.3 points per game. Lamar's 13 points were well below its season average of 42.3 per game.

The defeat comes as a step back for Lamar, which notched a 36-0 victory over Alief Taylor in its previous outing. The win brought Pearland's winning streak to four games.
