Baseball Recap: Leyden Gets the Win

Leyden got themselves on the board against Proviso East on Monday, but Proviso East never followed suit. They came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 5-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Jonathan Rosas tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Leyden is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sammy Calderon, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Leyden now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Proviso East, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Leyden will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
