Justin Pope produced another solid performance rushing for 194 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries, while also picking up 41 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 194 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Willie Lunsford, who threw for 142 yards and four TDs on only 12 passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Person was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 340 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks on offense in their last three games, Northside - Jacksonville finally came back down to earth two weeks ago. They took a 19-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Havelock. The Monarchs' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Even if they lost, Northside - Jacksonville's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: ANOOP MONROE, DANIEL WISNEWSKI, and MUHAMED DIOUF, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Northside - Jacksonville's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Person, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-6.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Person has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 164.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Northside - Jacksonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 153.7 rushing yards.
