Recap: The Nueva School Mavericks vs. North Valley Baptist Bulldogs
The Nueva School Mavericks had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 56 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 55-47 victory over North Valley Baptist. That's another feather in the cap for The Nueva School, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Gabe Ciechanover continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points. Ciechanover set a new season high mark in points with 20. Another player making a difference was Jackson Lee, who scored nine points.
North Valley Baptist's loss came despite strong showings from Dominic (Dom) Lara and Ethan (ELO) Lopez. Lara dropped a double-double on 22 points and 19 rebounds, while Lopez scored 17 points along with nine steals and six rebounds.
The Nueva School's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1. As for North Valley Baptist, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.
The Nueva School will take on King's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. King's Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than The Nueva School in California (King's Academy is ranked 185th, while The Nueva School is ranked 555th). North Valley Baptist will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on El Primero at 6:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
