Basketball Recap: First Flight Nighthawks vs. Northeastern Eagles
If the First Flight Nighthawks were feeling good off their 51-25 takedown of the Pasquotank County Panthers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. First Flight took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles on Tuesday. It was the first time this season that First Flight let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, First Flight had strong showings from Aubrey Phanton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Maddy Beatson, who scored 16 points along with five steals. Beatson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games.
Jasmine Felton was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds for Northeastern. That makes it six consecutive games in which Felton has scored at least a third of Northeastern's points. Azaria Gallop was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven steals.
First Flight's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3. As for Northeastern, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. First Flight will take on the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Currituck County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday. As for Northeastern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Pasquotank County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while the Eagles are ranked 70th).
