Softball Recap: Pittsburg Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Pittsburg waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Blue Valley West Jaguars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-0 on Wednesday.

Breck Slaughter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Megan Johnston was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three runs. Brette Pasteur was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pittsburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Pittsburg's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Blue Valley West, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Pittsburg will take on Columbus at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Blue Valley West, they will head out to face off against Saint Thomas Aquinas at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
