Softball Game Preview: Spring Valley Timberwolves vs. St. Albans Red Dragons

The Spring Valley Timberwolves will face off against the St. Albans Red Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Wednesday, Spring Valley needed a bit of extra time to put away George Washington. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Patriots 8-6. The Timberwolves haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Sydney Turner, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kate Spry, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Spring Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as George Washington only posted a batting average of .242.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. Albans, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over Ravenswood on Wednesday.

Ava Bentley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Paige White was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Ali Long was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

St. Albans is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Valley, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Spring Valley beat St. Albans 8-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Red Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
