Basketball Recap: Canton Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Canton had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.2 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They really took it to the Greenville Hornets for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-22 victory. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Shamira Morton was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and ten boards. Morton is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Journee Brown, who posted seven points and three steals.

Canton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Greenville lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Martaviah Rhodes, who put up 12 points. The dominant performance gave Rhodes a new career-high in points.

Canton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.2 points per game. As for Greenville, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canton will head out to face off against Yazoo City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Greenville, they are taking a road trip to take on Cleveland Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
