Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Merino walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Prairie Mustangs with a sharp 13-3 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Zavier Trenkle made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Isaac Poe was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Mickey Swiger, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Merino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win (which was Merino's fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Prairie, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.

Looking ahead, Merino will take on Akron at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Merino 4.1, Akron 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Prairie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
